Orientation Week


WEEK 1 2008

New students and new Year 11 students ONLY – information for returning students is below.

Monday, 4 FEBRUARY 2008

8.45 - 9.15 am

Registration - upstairs in the Canteen area.

The Canteen area overlooks the front grounds of the College.  Come into the College Reception area (via the undercroft space facing Launceston Street) and head up the stairs.

Students register at the table where their surname is listed alphabetically then:
  • Pick up a copy of their Orientation Package; and then
  • Move into the Theatre/Hall and sit in STEP (Student Enrichment Program) group rows (numbers on the wall match your STEP numbers in your orientation pack).
College staff will be more than happy to assist students.

9.15 am

ALL new Year 11 students move into the Theatre/Hall.

All Year 11 students sit in STEP group rows.
There will be notices up on the walls around the hall identifying STEP groups.
College staff will be present to assist students.

Students without a STEP group sit in the front rows.

9.20 – 9.45 am

Welcome address by College Principal, John Stenhouse.
College Student Representative Council (SRC) welcomes new students

9.45 – 10.45 am

STEP Session 1

STEP groups move to their room with their teacher.  Students will meet their STEP teacher and other students in their group, and:
  • Complete Student Profile/Update contact details;
  • Go through Orientation Booklet;
  • Explanation of timetable for the rest of the week;
  • Explanation of Map and tour the college;
  • Student Timetable issues discussed; and
  • Select from a range of fantastic workshops for our College Carnival.

10.45 – 11.15 am

       Recess – canteen will be open

11.15 – 12.00 noon

STEP Session 2
Students will learn about the wonderful challenges and triumphs of College life; Student Enrichment Program (STEP) folders, important dates during the year; Semester Planner; the ACT BSSS Attendance Policy; V Grade Policy; What to do if you are absent from college; Late submission of work policy; What is a Tertiary and Accredited Package?; Majors and Minors; and R units.

Students meet back in the theatre/hall for 15 minutes 11.45 – 12.00

12 noon

Lunch – canteen will be open

Please note: Students who do not need to see Student Services to discuss timetable or class enrolment issues may choose to leave the college

Year 11 Students: return at 10 am on Tuesday 5th February for a mini timetable starting line 1

12 - 4 pm

  • Students with no classes or fewer than 5 classes go to Student Services office on the middle floor.
  • Other Class changes go to Student Services
  • Enrolment of new students by appointment in Student Services office
  • ID photos in the photo lab for new enrolments
  • Repeats etc via Deputy Principals 

Tuesday, 5 FEBRUARY – ALL STUDENTS

8.45 am

Registration in Canteen for returning Year 12 students ONLY.

Students register at the table where surname is listed alphabetically then:
  • Pick up Orientation package
  • Move into the Theatre/Hall and sit in STEP groups (as indicated around the walls)
  • STEP groups are in place of PG, from 2008 onward.

9.15 am

Welcome address by Principal, John Stenhouse

9.35 – 10.00 am

STEP for Year 12 Students Only 

Year 12 STEP teacher takes group to allocated room
  • Complete Student Profile/Update contact details;
  • New students tour school;
  • Explanation of timetable for the rest of the week;
  • Student timetable issues discussed;
  • Student Enrichment Program folders; and
  • Select from a range of fantastic workshops for our College Carnival.
