Assessment
While at college, students undertake a range of assessment tasks. These vary from unit to unit and from faculty to faculty. Assessment tasks include things like essays, oral presentations, visual arts diaries, performance pieces, final products, process, and a range of other examples.
How students are assessed is informed by the goals and content of each unit. This is explained in each of the Course Frameworks documents available on the ACT BSSS website (www.bsss.act.edu.au ) and teachers are more than happy to answer any questions about individual classes. Generally, assessment tasks are designed to promote higher order thinking skills among students. A range of tasks are offered across the broad range of subjects available - but each task allows students to demonstrate their understanding and their learning. Some classes do three assessment tasks a semester. Others do five or more, depending on the nature of the course. More detailed information about assessment tasks are available from classroom teachers and the Executive Teacher of each faculty.
Assessable tasks are detailed in Unit Outlines which are made available in each class at the beginning of each semester. Students also receive task sheets that outline what each assessment task requires.
Assessment in each class is cumulative. At the end of each semester, students are awarded a grade (A-E) and a score (if they are enrolled in a "T" (Tertiary accredited) class.
Please contact the classroom teacher or an Executive Teacher if you have any questions about assessment.
